Free Cleaning Checklist (UK)

A practical room-by-room cleaning checklist for move-outs, deep cleans, regular home cleaning and quote requests.

Clean modern London flat with checklist, spray bottle and folded towel

Use this free cleaning checklist before a move-out inspection, deep clean, regular home clean, or quote request. It gives you the actual tasks to check room by room, plus the details cleaners need before they can price the job properly.

Quick printable checklist

Work top to bottom, dry to wet, and room by room. Tick each section as you go.

  • Clear surfaces and remove loose items before cleaning starts.
  • Dust high areas first: shelves, frames, light fittings, vents, curtain rails.
  • Wipe switches, sockets, handles, doors, skirting boards and window sills.
  • Clean kitchens and bathrooms before final floors.
  • Vacuum edges, corners, under movable furniture, then mop hard floors.
  • Check oven, fridge, inside cupboards, windows and carpets separately because they are common quote extras.

Before you start

  • Take photos of the rooms if you are comparing quotes or preparing for a landlord inspection.
  • Move clothes, toys, bags and paperwork out of the way so cleaners can reach surfaces.
  • Confirm whether cleaning products and equipment are supplied by you or the cleaner.
  • Check parking, lift access, keys, entry instructions and whether pets will be present.
  • List any priority problems: limescale, oven grease, mould marks, carpet stains or heavy dust.

Kitchen checklist

  • Clear and wipe worktops, splashbacks and visible surfaces.
  • Clean hob, rings, grates, control knobs and surrounding grease marks.
  • Wipe cupboard fronts, drawer fronts, handles and kickboards.
  • Clean sink, taps, drainer and visible limescale.
  • Clean microwave inside and outside if included.
  • Clean oven door, glass, racks and inside oven only if oven cleaning is included.
  • Empty and wipe fridge shelves and drawers only if fridge cleaning is included.
  • Clean inside cupboards and drawers only if internal cupboard cleaning is included.
  • Dust extractor hood exterior and wipe visible grease; deep filter cleaning may be extra.
  • Vacuum and mop floors, including edges, corners and under movable items.

Bathroom checklist

  • Scrub toilet bowl, seat, hinges, cistern, flush plate and base.
  • Clean bath, shower tray, shower screen, tiles and visible grout marks.
  • Descale taps, shower head, plugholes and glass where possible.
  • Clean sink, vanity unit, mirror, shelves and bathroom cabinets externally.
  • Wipe towel rails, radiators, light pulls, switches and door handles.
  • Clean extractor vent cover where safely reachable.
  • Empty bins and remove loose hair from floors and plug areas.
  • Mop behind the toilet and around bathroom edges.

Bedroom checklist

  • Dust furniture tops, bedside tables, shelves, frames and lamps.
  • Wipe wardrobe doors, drawer fronts, handles and mirrors.
  • Clean inside wardrobes and drawers only if they are empty and included.
  • Wipe skirting boards, window sills, switches, sockets and door handles.
  • Vacuum carpets carefully, including corners and around bed frames.
  • Mop hard floors and check under movable furniture.

Living areas, hallways and stairs

  • Dust shelves, tables, TV stands, picture frames and reachable surfaces.
  • Wipe doors, handles, bannisters, switches and visible marks on walls where safe.
  • Vacuum sofas and under cushions if upholstery cleaning is included.
  • Clean window sills and internal glass only if window cleaning is included.
  • Vacuum rugs, carpets, stairs and floor edges.
  • Mop hard floors last and leave them to dry before final inspection.

Move-out and landlord inspection hotspots

These are the areas most likely to cause complaints after an end-of-tenancy or move-out clean.

  • Oven interior, oven glass, hob grease and extractor hood.
  • Fridge, freezer, dishwasher edges and washing machine drawer.
  • Inside cupboards, drawers, wardrobes and shelves.
  • Limescale on taps, shower screens, shower heads and plugholes.
  • Skirting boards, door frames, light switches and socket surrounds.
  • Windows internally, sills, tracks and balcony or patio doors.
  • Bins, bin cupboards and any leftover rubbish.
  • Carpet stains, pet hair and heavy dust behind furniture.

What to send when asking for a quote

Cleaner quotes are faster and more accurate when every provider sees the same brief.

  • Postcode and rough parking/access situation.
  • Service type: end-of-tenancy, deep clean, regular clean, one-off clean or post-renovation clean.
  • Property size: bedrooms, bathrooms, reception rooms and approximate condition.
  • Preferred date, time window and urgency.
  • Extras required: oven, fridge/freezer, inside cupboards, windows, carpets, upholstery, balcony or bins.
  • Whether the property is furnished, empty, occupied or still being packed.
  • Photos of the kitchen, bathrooms and any problem areas.

Final 10-minute inspection

  1. Walk through each room with lights on and cupboards open where relevant.
  2. Check taps, shower screen, toilet base, oven glass, fridge shelves and skirting boards.
  3. Look at floors from the doorway to catch missed edges or footprints.
  4. Remove rubbish and check bins have been emptied.
  5. Take final photos if this is for a landlord, agent or inventory check.
