Deep Cleaning vs Regular Cleaning: What’s the Difference?
Deep Cleaning vs Regular Cleaning: What’s the Difference?
If you’re booking a cleaner (or doing it yourself), “regular” and “deep” cleaning aren’t the same thing. Choosing the right one saves money and avoids disappointment.
Regular cleaning (maintenance)
Best for: weekly or fortnightly visits to keep a home consistently clean.
Usually includes:
- Vacuuming and mopping floors
- Dusting reachable surfaces
- Wiping kitchen worktops + hob surface
- Cleaning sinks and taps (light descaling)
- Cleaning toilets, shower/bath surface wipe
- Emptying bins (if requested)
- Quick tidy (if agreed)
Often NOT included (unless requested):
- Inside oven
- Inside fridge/freezer
- Inside cupboards/drawers
- Heavy limescale removal
- Moving heavy furniture
- Full window cleaning
Deep cleaning (reset)
Best for: first clean, after renovation, before guests, spring clean, or when the home hasn’t been cleaned regularly.
Usually includes:
- Everything in a regular clean, plus:
- Detailed bathroom descaling (tiles, screen, taps)
- Grease build-up removal (kitchen)
- Skirting boards, doors, handles
- Edges/corners and behind light furniture (where possible)
- Targeted “problem areas” (shower grout, splashback, etc.)
Optional add-ons:
- Oven clean
- Fridge clean
- Inside cupboards
- Windows (inside)
- Carpet shampoo / upholstery (specialist)
Which should you book?
- If you already clean weekly: regular
- If it’s your first professional clean: deep, then regular after
- If you’re moving out: end of tenancy (usually deeper than a normal deep clean)
