End of Tenancy Cleaning Checklist (UK)
Use this checklist to avoid last minute panic and protect your deposit. If you’re booking a professional clean, send this list to the cleaner so expectations are clear.
Before you start
- Take photos of every room (good light)
- Empty cupboards/wardrobes where possible
- Defrost freezer (if needed)
- Open windows for ventilation
- Put aside rubbish bags, microfibre cloths, degreaser, limescale remover
Kitchen
- Hob and knobs cleaned (no grease)
- Oven: inside, trays, door glass
- Extractor hood and filters degreased
- Fridge/freezer wiped inside and outside
- Microwave inside/outside
- Sink + taps descaled and polished
- Worktops and splashback cleaned
- Cupboards/drawers wiped inside and outside
- Skirting boards wiped
- Bins cleaned and deodorised
- Floor vacuumed and mopped (edges too)
Bathroom
- Toilet: bowl, seat, base, behind
- Shower/bath: tiles, grout, glass screen
- Limescale removed from taps and showerhead
- Mirror polished
- Sink and vanity wiped inside/outside
- Cabinet shelves wiped
- Extractor fan vent dusted (if accessible)
- Floor vacuumed and mopped
Bedrooms
- Wardrobes wiped inside/outside
- Bed frame/headboard dusted
- Skirting boards wiped
- Sockets/switches wiped
- Windowsills and frames cleaned
- Vacuum carpets, including edges and under furniture
Living areas / hallway
- Dust all surfaces (top to bottom)
- Skirting boards wiped
- Marks removed from doors/handles
- Light switches wiped
- Vacuum/mop floors
- Windowsills and frames cleaned
Windows (if included)
- Inside glass cleaned
- Frames and sills wiped
- Tracks cleaned (where possible)
Final check
- Remove all personal items
- Replace lightbulbs if out
- Take “after” photos
- Leave property smelling neutral (avoid heavy fragrance)
